Usually nostalgia is a great decider of card value within a set, yet the first Kanto evolution isn't until in the mid-30s, with the full-art Vaporeon V at just $24.99. One thing that does surprise me slightly is how none of the first generation Eevee family make an appearance in this list. Though it received a Mega Evolution with the release of Pokemon X and Y, Gyarados remains the same size in both its normal and Mega forms, standing at 2104' tall. It is best known for being one of Mistys Pokemon in the animated series. Three of Evolving Skies' cards are more valuable than Chilling Reign's most valuable, while Battle Styles' would only just scrape into eighth place. Gyarados is the evolved version of Magikarp and was one of the original 151 Pokemon from the Kanto region. If we compare it to both Battle Styles and Chilling Reign, Evolving Skies is by far the most valuable expansion of the year so far. Those Evolving Skies-exclusive scratches behind the Dragon Type icon will certainly help in the long run, as it's a templating design choice that isn't likely to be continued in future expansions. Partially this is because of nostalgia, with Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald being a lot of people's first Pokémon games.
